Capezio Womens Manhattan Character Caramel

Most character shoes are hideously ugly, but this one looks nice. Although my ankle has a torn ligament, the shoe feels very sturdy especially when the dance requires balance on one foot. I have a nice pair of ballroom dance shoes that I considered using for the performance, but I couldn't do one of the one-foot hopping steps in them. I need more stability for that bad ankle. But I can do it with the character shoes. Also the wide heal makes them easy so stand in during rehearsals.

The shoes do run a bit small, but not unusual for dance shoes. I wear a size 5 street shoe, a 2 1/2D in point shoes, and 2 1/2 in ballroom shoes. I purchased a 5 1/2 after reading the reviews that the shoes run small and the size is about right. I would not go bigger and if I had ordered a size 5, I believe they would've fit enough to use although a little tightly. I do not find the shoes to be too narrow even with my D size.

I do find that the straps need another opening. (Perhaps the size 5 straps would've fit more snug) And I have high arches so ideally I'd like more arch support. I was hoping that with the 3" heel the shoe arch would touch my foot as it does with my 3" ballroom shoes, but it does not. The 3" heel and the shape of the shoe makes legs and feet look good.

The color is good, soft and muted. During rehearsals, the other dancers asked where I had gotten the shoes.

  1. You can cha-cha, foxtrot, freddy and frag in these dancer's shoes. Be forewarned. They run short. I wear a size 10. I ordered a 10 and 1/2 and they were a tad small. I sent them back and ordered an 11. Be sure to order one full size larger than you normally wear and dance the night away.

  2. I made the mistake of buying two pairs of lesser known, cheaper tap shoes on eBay, wasting $40 dollars, I could have put toward a new pair of Capezios. My daughter is a 6W, but was fitted at the original Capezio Store in NYC. She was fitted and bought a 6.5W low heeled pair there, so we knew to buy a half size up from Amazon when we couldn't get back to NYC in time.

  3. I ordered these as stage shoes to replace another non-capezio brand pair. These are very well made and despite the 2 1/2" heel, I stayed comfortable in a 3-hour show. I plan to wear these for performances in the future. I should say that I struggle with shoes fitting well and toe-numbness due to a number of foot conditions. I definitely recommend these for actors, performers and dancers as comfortable stage shoes (and can be fitted with taps if needed).

  4. As an actress, I have gone thorugh a lot of character shoes, and I could never find the right ones. Laducas make my feet look abnormally tiny compared to my body, and I've tried a lot of difffrent capezios...but they always made my legs look strange cause the heels were too tiny, or they were just uncomfortable to dance/walk in...I ordered a slightly longer heel than this one, and was unable to dance properly in them. These are the perfect height to give your leg an attactive shape, and they are comfortable to dance in! LOVELY. This is my go to shoe from now on.

  6. Over the summer I picked up a pair of pumps for a special occasion. The night turned into a horror show because my feet and legs were in so much pain from the shoes. After that experience I vowed to find the most comfortable pair of pumps in the world. I found the Capezio shoe. They are not super dressy but I'll take comfort over dazzle any day. I don't want to ruin another fun evening out because of a pair of shoes. Thanks Capezio!

  7. I love these shoes! I ordered the caramel color. I am not a professional dancer but these shoes are the best for ballroom dancing on any floor. And any other kind of dancing. I receive tons of compliments b/c the vamp cut gives your foot that very sexy look. Comfort is there also. The only thing is FYI says that they are street size but I had to return mine for a half size larger. No problem--company had my exchange delivered ASAP.
    This color goes with everything.
