swimsuits reviews Lash Broken Angel ebook

Lash Broken Angel ebook

I received an ARC copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

Lash, a fallen angel, was banished from heaven for breaking the orders that he was assigned to. After 35 years of banishment, heaven reaches out to him to give him another chance of redeeming himself. His new orders specifies for him to keep Naomi Duran safe. Little does he know that with this new assignment, his past mistakes would resurface and that Naomi would stir new emotions and memories that he has never felt before. The more they got closer, the more secrets are unraveled. In the end, he has to decide between his desire to go back home or the desire he has for Naomi.

Loved Loved Loved this book. Great story line. I've always enjoyed books with Angels in them but this book have many other elements that really surprised me. The book kept me guessing until the end with its many mysteries and secrets. All the characters, even secondary ones were so well developed that I've grown to love and enjoy them . This book is so well written with very vivid imagery that it's almost like watching a movie in my head. Readers would definitely laugh, cry, and be amazed. I'm definitely looking forward to the next installment

Rowena Dark Lord Lands ebook

I couldn't wait for Rowena to return. I don't really mean to Land's End, I mean to my Kindle. I missed her wit, spirit, energy, and penchant for ruining dresses. As I said in a review for the first book, Rowena Through the Wall, she is the most unique character to come along since Lisbeth Salander. Rowena makes me laugh out loud with her quirky thought processes and her hilarious reactions to impossible situations.

Although the novels are fantasy, with time travel thrown in, they are at heart romantic. Not traditional romance--there are several men involved, you see, not just one--but sexy, daring and packed with roller coaster emotions. Rowena's romps through the fantastical world that she enters through her classroom wall are wild, with all kinds of twists and turns in a plot and setting that would make George R. R. Martin jealous.

I don't often have fun reading a book. Most of the time, there are moments of laughter, or tears, or heart-pounding action. But with Rowena, I am on the edge of my seat all the time, laughing and racing through the pages while enjoying every well-chosen word. For a good time, call Rowena and the Dark Lord.

bike trailer Sony SLT A99V Full Frame Digital Camera

Sony SLT A99V Full Frame Digital Camera

The best low light performance yet of the Alphas I have owned. Still would like and onboard flash, for those lazy moments, and to control the Metz Ring Light.

Yes, there is a wireless flash delay. Makes using the Metz Ring Flash nearly impossible. The current patch is to use the A99's FEL, or Flash Exposure Lock, and then the delay goes away. Just don't change the distance to subject or the exposure will be off.

You will need the HVL-F60M flash as the adaptor that comes with the camera is not secure enough to trust your F42, 43, 56, or 58 too. That little wheel just won't stay tight.

Can take nice clean video, but seems to be hit or miss unlike the A77. Some have recommended turning off Steady Shot for video and that seems to help sharpen things up.

The onboard MIC is very, very good.

Beautiful JPEGS!

Range lock for the autoexposure works great.

Not sure if it is weather sealed as well as the A77. Disney World raft ride... no problem for the A77. Even took a soaking at the water park and the A77 kept on shooting. Very impressive but not confident the A99 would fare as well.

The view finder is exceptional and the tilt swivel screen makes those high/low shots easy.

Duel card slots are interesting but seems that some software won't upload from both cards without manual intervention.

Seems to be a power hog but then again I have everything turned on. Getting approx. 200-220 shots per charge.

Definitely needs a firmware upgrade and I hope it gets as much attention as the A77, which is currently on release number 1.07.

Be sure to give the auto portrait feature a try! The Sweep feature works vertically also.

As mentioned above you will probably want the HVL-F60M flash, one or two 94mbs memory cards, an extra battery and a great lens such as the SAL2470Z which plays very well with the additional autofocus points.

I was skeptical of a health-foodie soda of all things! I initially tried this when a friend got it for a gathering . Not only is it good for you: using stevia, no calories, no sugar--it is really delicious!

[...]

-Delicious flavor: Ginger Root beer is my favorite
-No calories, no sugar is great. I don't like drinking soda because it is so bad for you, but since this is all natural, it is great to be able to have it as a refreshing snack or with bbq food or comfort foods! I usually steer away from diet foods because they lack in flavor and constantly remind me that I made a "DIET" choice instead of a happier choice, but Zevia has succeeded in making a happy, healthy drink.
-Stevia does have a distinct taste or lingering sweet taste on the tongue that is definitely not the same as real sugar. It's not unpleasant, but it is just a different palate experience. I actually like it! I normally don't use stevia in my drinks, especially hot drinks, because of this difference, but this soda really uses it well.
-Addictive in a great, refreshing way :)

OMG...What an AMAZING debut novel. E.L. Montes knocked it out of the park on this one. This was a love story but not your typical hearts and flowers type love story. This book kind of reminded me of Bared to You in the sense of the Hero and Heroine were very dysfunctional and flawed. This was definitely a roller coaster of emotions. Marcus and Mia's relationship reminded me of Eva and Gideon in the respect that they probably shouldn't be together but for some reason they just work well together. I do feel that Marcus and Mia's relationship was rushed a little in the beginning, it wasn't insta-love but it did happen over a very short period of time. I truly loved the suspense element to this story. Ms. Montes kept me guessing until close to the end. I had a feeling about it and was partially right. The suspense made me want to keep turning the pages, I just had to see what Marcus was hiding and how things would turn out. I was happy with the ending knowing that there will be another book to follow. I would say that this book is a HFN (happy for now) ending, with not really a cliffhanger but an epilogue that segues into the next book. You could definitely read this book without driving yourself insane waiting for the next one. With that said I am anxiously awaiting the next book, I can't wait to see where she takes Marcus and Mia. They have a long road ahead of them. This is a MUST READ!!!!! One for my favs shelf:)

wedding dress review All Over World Orchestra REMASTERED

All Over World Orchestra REMASTERED

Whether or not this collection is "complete" is irrelevant, because you cannot possibly fit all of ELO's greatest songs on one disc. These guys have been recording off and on since 1971, and they have an amazing body of work.

For me, I just judge it based upon the listening experience provided by each individual song. On that basis, all I can say is WOW. From the opening blast of "Mr. Blue Sky" through the pop brilliance of "Sweet Talkin' Woman" and the eccentric romp "Diary of Horace Wimp" and the recently re-recorded Jeff Lynne version of "Xanadu" and the galloping guitars of "Alright" from ZOOM and the closing retro kick of "Rock and Roll is King," each track is a new revelation. Of course, you've got the mammoth hits like "Don't Bring Me Down," "Telephone Line," "Strange Magic," "Shine a Little Love," and "Evil Woman" all sandwiched in there too.

As for the sonic boom here, it's huge! Each song sounds more clear and BIG than ever before. It's a great way to introduce a friend to ELO or to refresh your own happy memories of them. Get in your car, put on a rocker like "Ma-Ma-Ma Belle," roll down your windows, and hit the gas. This is pure driving music, baby!

trailer Flat Out Matt Jessica Park

Flat Out Matt Jessica Park

I recently read and greatly enjoyed Jessica Park's book Flat-Out Love. I start by saying this only because Flat-Out Matt MUST...I repeat MUST...be read AFTER reading Flat-Out Love. This was a great companion book to Flat-Out Love, and I'm glad I was able to read both so close together. Also, please let me note that I do my best to not spoil any of Flat-Out Love, but it might not be totally avoidable. Read with caution.

This book was an essential addition to my enjoyment of FOL. While I enjoyed a majority of that book, the chapters in Flat-Out Matt that were told in Matt's POV enhanced my understanding of the romance in the story. I feel that seeing the same events but from another character's view gave new insight into things. It's also a great story to see various side from due to the nature of things.

What was also a great part of FOM was the prequel chapters and the chapters near the end. From these chapters and the rest of the ones included in this book, I grew to admire Matt more than from FOL alone. I also think that having only a select few chapters "re-told," instead of the entire book, was a great choice by the author. It gives just enough of what a reader might want to relive but doesn't provide too much which could kill the enjoyment of reading something "again.

I'm not normally a reader who'd want to read a story from a different character's point of view. For the most part, I feel that a story is told from one POV (if it's a one POV type of book) for a reason and shouldn't be touched, but I'm glad I picked this one up. Flat-Out Love is still in my mind even a week after finishing it. It's story will stick with me for quite a while. Now that I've finished Flat-Out Matt, I feel that there's even more to enjoy about the story/stories. Park's book(s) will definitely be in the running for favorite books of 2013 when the time comes.

DustAid Platinum DSLR Sensor Cleaner

This silicone tamper is a quick aid for medium duty jobs. It's fast, easy, and grabs most the stuff your blower won't dislodge. The price is decent too. I'm glad I discovered it and will recommend it to fellow shooters.

Unfortunately, there's no single solution to cleaning the electronic dust-magnet (otherwise known as 'your sensor') in your camera. You need a multifaceted approach and it will require many tools to attack the array of dust, micro-strand fibers, and unnamed weirdness that is layering itself on your images. Start with the trusty blower, then use this tamper. If you need more force you could skip the static-charged brush and go straight for the wet method if the blight won't release on the tamper. Be persistent with your attempts and you'll win in the end.

ring Wild Montana Sky Series ebook

Wild Montana Sky Series ebook

The characters in Wild Montana Sky came alive for me. It was a pleasure reading about a 19th century heroine who behaved like a real woman of her time, with strong emotions and physical reactions but no inappropriate sexual involvements. Not only did I care deeply about Elizabeth, but Nick also felt three-dimensional, a real man as well as a hero.

Debra Holland has created a textured story with believable period details. From the start, I was caught up in Elizabeth's dilemma as her manipulative sister-in-law made her home unlivable. Her experiences in traveling to Montana and adapting to an entirely different way of life made for an engrossing read. And the author maintained the suspense, both about the relationship and about a seriously ill child, right to the end.

Fans of traditional romances as well as Little Women and Dr. Quinn, Medicine Woman will enjoy this book.

handbags Seasons Moon Series Books ebook

Seasons Moon Series Books ebook

In a course I took on the American literature of the 1920s, the professor began his discussion of "The Sun also Rises" by calling our attention to a minor, sidebar scene: Jake and Georgette promenade in in Paris in the early evening past the window of the Herald Tribune offices. Jake explains to Georgette that the clocks displayed in the window show the hour in each of the four time zones across America. Georgette, who is a prostitute from Belgium, looks at the clocks in the window and says: "Don't kid me."

It is an odd little scene, and on the face of it doesn't make sense. But it is the key to the book. The novel is about time and death. For Georgette and Jake, who are survivors of the 1914-18 war, time doesn't exist in the traditional sense. For the survivors of the war, as for the dead, time is understood to be over.

In the 19th century, most Americans considered the passage of time to be a metronome of human progress. The equation of time with progress was a form of boosterism, born from the great success of the industrial revolution and the Westward expansion of the country. As time went on, things got bigger, better, faster, richer and further West. Time and progress were synonymous.

For the war generation, this naively optimistic view of time and industrial progress ended abruptly and in it ended in violence. It seemed that industrial progress had paid itself off in the industrialization of death - the machine gun, the French 75s, the recoilless artillery of Krupp.

The Great War was not a gallant, romantic, sabers on horseback conflict like that depicted in late 19th century newspaper accounts of the Spanish American war. The Great War of 1914-18 came to be seen, from the point of view of writers in the 1920s, as an unfair fight between men and (indifferent, impersonal, efficient) killing machines. A highly mechanized slaughterhouse.

Hemingway's generation, the so-called "lost generation," was lost in fact. A generation died in the war. The statistics of mortality were for those days stunning and incredible.

The novel is set in Paris around 1924, six years after the armistice. For the characters who were soldiers or survivors like Jake and Georgette, the daily circuit of the sun is a clock without purpose. Time is meaningless to them, just as it is to the dead. Hence, the sun "also" rises. It happens every morning of course but it is an event that occurs off to one side. It does not bring the hope of a new dawn, it does not mean "life goes on." In this novel, emphatically, life does not go on - there is no progress.

The war survivors' perception of time has shrunk to the present moment, in which they live. They elaborately avoid looking back - the war is just a huge hole in their personal stories -- and they cannot look forward, in the sense of "looking forward to" a superior future. For the survivors of the war, time has been turned around, flipped. Death has already happened - it is behind them. They do see the sun rise and set. But although time passes, it does not really go anywhere.

The passage of time into a brighter future, the progress of the sun through a succession of time zones across the US from east to west - all this strikes the Belgian survivor, Georgette, as utter nonsense. "Don't kid me." She says.

The war is the silent, unmentionable core of The Sun Also Rises, but the characters sometimes mention it inadvertently, in asides, and the reader gets tiny glimpses of what happened to these people the war, and what it did to them.

They never move forward. Writers start, or fail to start, books that they never finish. Love affairs lead to nothing, no marriages and no babies. There is a constant theme of drinking to coast through the present and to forget the past. Another diversion is an obsessive concentration on the sensual minutia of the present moment. Jake, a former combat pilot who has suffered some sort of wound to his groin, never detailed, is outside of time in the biological sense that he cannot reproduce. He has lost his "line", that is, the line of familial and biological continuity between past and future.

Conflicts in the book frequently arise as mutually amazed confrontations between Americans who skipped the war, and still have their 19th century sense of optimism and progress and honor intact -- and the "new" Americans like Hemingway - expatriates from American space but, more importantly, from the old American sense of time as something positive. In what has probably become the most famous line in the book Jakes says: "I mistrust all frank and simple people, especially when their stories hold together." As an American war veteran, Jake himself has a huge rip through his own story.

This year, The Sun Also Rises is 80 years old. Frozen in time, exactly as Hemingway intended. A difficult, complicated book that is, nevertheless, very easy to read.

Sensational device. Fantastic value

bookshelf The River Blind Allison Grayhurst

The River Blind Allison Grayhurst

I ordered the Motoactiv as a Christmas gift (as is tradition in my family, we order our own gift, and another family member reimburses you) for myself, early in December.

At first I figured I would only wear it during workouts, now i wear it all the time, as a watch, basal metabolic rate calculator, pedometer, and as an easy way to discreetly check text messages at work.

When paired with a heart rate monitor (garmin premium hrm works great) and bluetooth headphones ( I picked up the LG Tone+) it is true workout bliss.

I originally picked up the Motoactiv so that I could have a small wireless music player, rather than be tethered by earbuds to my cell phone. At the time the fitness tracking features were just a nice bonus. After 1 month the Motoactiv has changed how I look at fitness and how I workout. Now when doing cardio I am much more cognizant of my heart rate, and work out intensity.

Outside the GPS tracking picks up quickly and is very accurate, it displays a map and your track, as well as distance, altitude and time. You can customize what metrics are displayed.

Inside without calibration the distance meter is pretty accurate, if you choose to calibrate it (walking or running on a treadmill for a set time then entering the distance traveled into the Motoactiv) or use a foot pod it is very very accurate

Personally I think this device shines with the golf features. The 8gig now also supports golfers. You set up what states you play in, what clubs are in your bag, and your distances you hit and what tee boxes your playing from. Once that is done, when you walk onto the course the gps tracker locates you, displays the course, and begins acting as your digital caddie, telling you distance to the pin, and suggesting what club to use. It even tracks swings!

I have been very very happy with my purchase.
The only negatives I have encountered were with initial bluetooth pairing , it took about 5 tries. Once it was paired for the first time with my LG Tone+ headphones it has found them every time after with ease.

If your going to wear it everyday i would suggest a screen protector.

Alright, so my Comcast internet went from 18 mbps to 26 mbps download and approximately 6mbps to 5mbps upload (I'm wireless on this). There's less wires and clutter now that I have one box.

Having said that, this is not for the faint of heart. I had to log in and straighten out the following problems:

1. Android phone (Motorola Droid Bionic) would not connect (didn't check my wife's iphone4)
2. PS3 would not connect
3. MacBook pro would not connect
4. PC would not connect
5. VPN would not connect

Here's what I did today, following what others said to do in the reviews, and my own tweaking:

Step 1: Provision with Comcast and Upgrade
- Call Comcast and ask them to both provision your new modem and push the latest firmware (SBG6580-3.5.8.2-GA-00-488-NOSH as of the date of this review).
- Hard restart the modem (pull out the power from the back, wait 30 seconds, then plug it back in, rep should ask you to do that)

Step 2: Get your PC up and running (this solved my PC connection issue)
- Plug an ethernet cable to your laptop and plug it into any of the four ports in the back of the modem.
- Try to surf to any site. If this doesn't work, click Start, type "cmd" (no quotes) in the search bar in the bottom, and you should get the command prompt. Type "ipconfig /release" (again, no quotes), and then "ipconfig /renew". You should now be able to surf to any site.

Step 3: Change your device's Wireless Settings (resolves Android phone issue and PS3 issue)
- Open a web browser of your choice and type (...)
- At the login screen, type "admin" for username, and "motorola" for password.
- At the top of the link, choose the "Wireless". Leave all options alone - in particular, leave 802.11 band at "2.4 GHz" - raising it to 5 GHz blocked my phone from seeing the wifi entirely. I could literally toggle between the options and watch wifi disappear on my phone.
- Next, on the left, click on "Primary Network". You can change the Network Name and WPA Pre-Shared Key (your password) to something easier than the default (found on a sticker at the bottom of the modem).
- On the far right is an option for Automatic Security Configuration. The dropdown menu has "WPS" and "Disabled" as your option - choose "Disabled", as enabling this blocks the PS3 from connecting to the network (although unlike the Android, you'll be able to see it, just not connect). This solves the PS3 connectivity issue.

Step 4: Change Firewall Settings (helped with my VPN client)
- This resolved VPN issues, my VPN client wasn't getting through.
- At the top menu, click on Firewall and then make Firewall setting "low" or "medium" ("high" will kill it).
- If IP Flood detection is checked off here, uncheck this as this was known to give problems.

Step 5: Connecting macbook pro
- MacBook was finding the network and acting like it connected, but when trying to surf the web, it would claim it was offline.
- Turned out the DNS settings were not updating properly, and this had to be configured manually on the mac (I've seen this on other wifi networks with the macbook pro, I think this is a bug with the mac's wifi provisioning utility.
- While logged in to your modem (remember, it's (...), login: admin, password: motorola), click "Basic" on the top nav menu and then look for "IPv4 DNS Servers". Write that down somewhere, especially the one listed at the Primary.
- On your macbook, click on the wifi icon on your macbook, choose "Open Network Preferences", click the "Advanced" tab on the bottom right, then click "DNS". Click the plus sign to add a DNS manually. Mine was 75.75.75.75

Since this is my first day with the device, I'll come back and subtract stars if I start seeing frequent resets as has been the complaint with older software revs of this device.

The Kings of Metal Have Returned!!!!

camera review God Is Dead

God Is Dead

Ok, I just listened to the song. I wish I would have not read the reviews. I sat there after that and thought "great something I have been wishing for since the Reunion cd and it is going to suck" And I have never been happy to be wrong in my life. This song was awesome in everyway possible. I have no clue what people are talking about. This was exactly what people have said "Satanic Blues". And I am not giving them a free pass. Not even when I know Tony is getting chemo. I still expect them to do a great job. And not only is the passable and professional. It is amazing and it is classic Sabbath. Yes I say that, but with a caveat. Understand that something that can be classic with also bring ing something new to it. I would rather have change than the same thing over and over. If you want that then just listen to the albums already out. And enjoy those. For me I am looking forward to "13". June cannot come long enough. But hey at least my birthday is the 8th..so nice birthday present.

I had never before heard of the godwit!

wedding dress

The shards of an egg lay beneath the long legs of a "little female bar-tailed godwit." Her mother looks down at her fuzzy chick who began to peep at her. "Peep! Peep! The midnight Alaskan sky still gave off plenty of light in June and other young godwit chicks could be seen in the distance. The little chick was the last to hatch and already her sisters and brothers were hunting insects with their father. The chicks don't wander far from their nest for a couple of days. The family forages in the grass in search of food, but when it is time to rest "their parents take turns sitting on them to keep them warm."

They all need to eat, but the "parents need to double their body weight before fall" in anticipation for their long migration. The grasses are home to insects and soon the little godwit wanders in search of them. A lone Arctic fox searches for his food in the grass and sees the little chick, but "her father spots the fox and squawks a warning." Other adult godwits join in the attack and she is safe ... for now. During the course of a month her downy fur gives way to feathers and she's "hopping and flapping her wings." Soon it will be time for her to fly.

This is a charming, lyrical tale of godwit life and their migration. The story is told in a picture book format, making it more appealing to a wider audience. We watch the godwit chick from the time she emerges from her shell to the time she is old enough to migrate to New Zealand. The artwork, a combination of watercolor and collage, is quite graceful and captures the very essence of the godwit. In the back of the book is a fast facts section, "Godwits Are Amazing," a personal perspective from the author, and recommended book and video resources to explore. There are additional complementary educational resources on the publishers website.

Michele is an amazing photographer and has taken photos of my family for the past 5 years. She has literally watched our children grow up through the lens of her camera and year after year has worked her magic to get incredible photos that we have shared with our friends and family. My wife and I are always awe-struck at her photography abilities and having this book to learn her tips and tricks directly is great!

I am a very amateur photographer and have dabled in more than point and shoot after buying my first DSLR a couple years ago. Michele's book is chock full of information that will be very helpful for me in taking my skills up to the next several levels. The flow of the content in the book is great and is very easy to follow. The material builds on itself as you go through the book and gives you a lot of hands on stuff that you can put into practice immediately.

Thank you Michele for sharing your gift and for passing on your expertise!

Great new record from an old favorite...

Samsung NX1100 Digital Camera 20 50mm

I bought this when it first came out in 2007 (not 2009 like the web page states) and listened to it constantly in my car for over a month... then let it sit in a pile of CD's for awhile (while getting acquainted with a new gf), before getting it back into the CD player, and rediscovering what an absolutely brilliant record this is! (yes, I'm kinda old that way, still call 'em 'records', haha)
No matter the song, hard, soft, heavy, mellow, folky, classic doomy metal, hippyish....the music seems to be perfectly done. Vocals, guitars, drums, everything is spot on.... I've always loved the guitar tones and textures and contrasts of Franklin/Wartell and the guys don't let me down here. They can play in tandem, play harmonies, swap between rythm and fills/leads, it's as flawless as ever, and better than most I've heard...right up there with Tipton/Downing IMHO...
Anyway, good songs, great vocals, awesome riffs, and not a 'click thru' song on the CD... I can sit and drive, listen, and not get to a piece I don't wanna hear!
I just finished listening to the old faves Black Sabbath Vol. 4 and Black Sabbath 1...and this follows nicely, doesn't seem out of place with the old Doom favorites...
Also, it's nice to see that my all time favorite Trouble Album, 1990's 'Trouble' is now available here as an MP3 download, so no more looking for $50-60 CD's on EBAY!!!
Highly recommended!!!

Terry C. Johnston is the Master Storyteller!

kitchen sinks undermount review Crack Titus Bass Terry Johnston

Crack Titus Bass Terry Johnston

This book, a prequel to the wonderfully written novel "Carry the Wind", is one of the best books in the 9 volume Titus Bass series. What I liked most about this particular entry in the series is that the reader experiences how Bass comes into his own as a free trapper in the Rocky Mountain West of the 1820-1830's. The period dialogue, action, and Johnston's masterful depiction of the scenery help establish a strong sense of period and place.

As with all of Johnston's works, this volume weaves fictitious characters into real historical events. The writing is captivating, action-packed, and brutally realistic. I found the depiction of the battle between Bass and a long-sought foe to be particularly violent and graphic yet it was necessary to the story. The world lost a wonderful writer and historian when Johnston died in 2001; luckily he left us with his writings. Anyone wanting to read a great work of historical fiction or anyone who is a student of the fur trade, Indian Wars, or Western American history simply can't go wrong with one of Johnston's books and "Crack in the Sky" is among the best.

The Bible comes to life

wedding dress review Elijah William H Stephens

Elijah William H Stephens

This story, based on the Old Testament book(s) in the Bible starts with the corruption of the Israelites by the swaying of crafty Pheonicians. It delves into the story a great number of Israelites ruled by KIng Ahab and of course his wife, Queen Jezebel dropped their faith in God and turned to the Baalism (primarily, the pagan gods, Merlkart and Ashura).

It gives incite when:
Prophet Elijah pronounces the famine to King Ahab. Elijah
Elijah being fed by the Ravens, the famished widow and her son,
Elijah meeting Elisha
The contest on Mount Carmel - where God set the sacrificial bull on fire.
Elijah's on the run from Jezebel and his depression while traveling as a hermit
Elijah hearing the command in the The stillness rather than the storms and earthquake
Elijah coming back to give the prophecy to Ahab
Ahab's death
Elijah giving prophecizing to Ahab's sons
Death of a son of Ahab and his constant denial of God's power
Elijah taken up to the sky by the whirlwind and passing the torch to Elisha
Death of Jeroam
Jezebel's death
Jeru's crowning

Still a star album after 28 years.

printed pencil skirt Jonathan Livingston Seagull Original Soundtrack

Jonathan Livingston Seagull Original Soundtrack

My brother introduced me to this record just after it was first released some 28 years ago. I can remember the occasion as if it were yesterday. I was sleeping late on a Saturday morning and I was awakened by music echoing through the house. Music that was haunting, expressive, flowing. Words that were insightful, thoughtful, introspective and, most of all, moving.

Eventually, I got up and went downstairs to find out what I had been listening to, and I discovered that it was Jonathan Livingstone Seagull by Neil Diamond. Well, I was captivated; truly, deeply captivated. I'd rarely heard such rich, wonderfully expressive modern music before. Yes, I knew of Neil Diamond, but this record made me see and hear him in a new light.

I bought the album and wore it out after many playings over many years. I've seen the film so many times I've lost count, but one thing still gives me shivers as I watch it is the combination of absolutely superb photography matched to the superlative soundtrack. I cannot understand how, in Britain at least, this film got relegated to art-house status and didn't get the wide release it dererves.

Even today (now I have the CD) I find that in troubled times I can darken my lounge, lie back in my favourite chair, listen to this music and feel my worries subside. It is so relaxing.

Cute and adorable clothing patterns for children ages 2-12 years of age and their companions abound in this book. Author Brandy Fortune has put together a collection of nineteen patterns each for child and a 15 inch doll that would be relatively simple to knit and loved by a child. The book has patterns for ballet wraps, pinafores, boys' color work sweaters, jackets, shrugs, skirts, and even bracelets.

The patterns list yarns that are usually found in specialty yarn shops, such as Blue Sky alpaca or Lorna's Laces. The patterns do use yarns in common weights, so it will be possible to substitute if a knitter chooses to do so.

There are a few things in particular I really love about this pattern collection; the photographs, the dolls, and the customization suggestions beginning on page 8. The collection itself has enough variety that if you want to knit for children, you will probably be able to find something for almost every child in this book. The dolls that are wearing the matching pieces are all 15 inch cloth bodied dolls. the dolls are adorable, and remind me of Kathy Kruse Waldorf style dolls. The book states that many of the patterns should also fit on 18 inch dolls, like American girl, without much adjusting needed. This bring s me to the third thing I like about this book - on page 8 Fortune tells how to use actual body measurements from children or dolls to adjust the patterns to a custom fit. Since children (and their dolls) do not have bust and waist shaping, adjusting patterns for them is much easier then for adult women. With the ability to customize, this book just made itself even more worthwhile. Knitters will need not fear a poor fit in their gifts to small loved ones.

Fortune is herself a busy mother to small children. She is the editor/founder of petite purls.com, an online knitting magazine. Fortune designed the patterns to be relatively quick to knit, with interesting stitches and patterning, and also to be comfortable to the children who would wear them.

Patterns I hope to knit from the book include the ballet shrug featured on the cover, the owl sweater for a boy, the felted crown hat, and the jesse bear hat. The hats are simple and whimsical enough that kids would not fight wearing them during cold snaps, and may even want to use them in their pretend play.

If you enjoy knitting for chidden, this is a lovely addition to your home knitting library.
