Danger, Flooded Rivers, Faith and Love

dress women review Loves Beating Heart ebook

Loves Beating Heart ebook

This fast-paced and riveting novel skillfully melds two separate but closely related story lines. Cat Majors, hiding from gang-involved boyfriend Ty, who beat her and left her lying along a Texas Hill Country back road, finds shelter in the back seat of a pickup truck. The next thing she knows she's thrust into the middle of the large and noisy Creekmore family, whose Christian beliefs and lifestyle are completely foreign to her. Cat doesn't hesitate to take advantage of the family's kindness, especially since she finds head of the household Sky immensely attractive. In the meantime, she's unaware that her beloved younger teenage sister, Dena, has embarked on her own wild and dangerous excursion. Dena's best friend Natasha is pregnant. Natasha plans to run away from home when her stepfather threatens to perform an abortion himself if Natasha refuses to have one. Dena and Natasha head to Dena's step-grandparents in the Hill Country and through a variety of events, the teen girls find themselves floating down a dangerously flooded river, dodging police, attacking dogs, hunger, and near rape by a group of drunk young men. Cat and Dena, through separate paths, begin to learn how to open their hearts to God and accept Him into their lives. Despite the serious subject matter, this book is written with humor and sensitivity. I found myself "on the edge of my seat" to the end, wondering if Cat would finally escape her abusive boyfriend and perhaps even find real love, if the younger girls would survive their ordeal on the river, and what Natasha would decide to do about her baby. This book is listed as young adult, but I think most adults would enjoy reading it as well.

Liu Cixin is an eloquent and technically precise writer, which makes his works a pleasure to read, but in this story, the romantic sentimentality of a civilization struggling against all odds to realize its potential seeps in gradually among the backdrop of technical grandeur, and the reader is caught in breathless wonder of its power. I still have shivers every time I ride to the climax of the story.
Liu is widely recognized as the best SF writer in all of China; after his terrifyingly powerful long trilogy "Three-Body" (an English translation due to come out soon) his fans declared him absolutely the best SF writer in the world. Though this novella "Mountain" does not have the length to match the epic scope of Three-Body, it is no less breathtaking. This is my favourite shorter story from his works, with majestic poetry echoing in the core of the tale.

Only Liu Cixin can fit such an epic into the length of a novella. Totally recommend it.

Celestron NexStar 127SLT Mak Computerized

I have got beautiful, crisp visuals from this scope using my 10mm Baader eyepiece. Star clusters, double stars...Lots of things show up well in this scope and the 5 inch aperture is not like what a 10 or 12 inch dob can offer in terms of light gathering ability and giving you a large image of a planet or whatever your observing but there are some benefits to using a scope like this.

1. Its lighter than larger scopes and very transportable.
2. Larger scopes and faster f # or f ratio may need collimation often, this scope is SOLID! You may never need to adjust the factory collimation on this one.
3. GOTO is handy, but learning the bright stars in the sky and constellations is still a necessity....A Celestron SkyScout can aid in learning the sky. There is even the SkyScout Connect that can hook up from this scope to a Celestron SkyScout and it fills in the GPS, time and location questions for you.

Tips - You'll need dark skies to observe bright nebulae the best! Rechargeable batteries DO WORK..I use duracell. Getting an extension cord and using a power adapter that plugs into a household outlet is a good idea! They have car cig light adapters for power too!

Heartbreakingly real

watches woman The Sky Is Dead ebook

The Sky Is Dead ebook

I have to say at the outset that I am huge fan of Sue Brown's work. I have read virtually all her offering s and loved them all. Some more than others of course, as is the way of things.

But this particular story of Danny and Harry touched at my heartstring s and took me to a place deep inside myself where I really felt grateful for what I had and for where I'd come from.

Danny is a gay, eighteen year old homeless boy, sleeping rough under a bush and just trying to survive. Kicked out of home when he was sixteen for kissing his boyfriend on New Year's Day, Danny finds himself having to make his own way in what is a very tough world. He trusts no one, doesn't let himself get attached to anyone because he's loved and lost before. He does what he can to survive and some of it he's not proud of.

And then Harry bumbles into his life. Sixteen year old Harry, an innocent in Danny's world, but a boy who makes his presence felt and decides that Danny needs his help. From that point on, their two lives become so intertwined and Danny finally starts to learn to trust people again. Then Danny's heart is broken again and he vows to never let himself be vulnerable again.

It sounds as if Danny is destined for loneliness but that really isn't the case at all. This is an uplifting, beautifully written story, sketched with compassion and love, and a lot of tear jerking moments. The characters are masterfully drawn, with all their flaws and strengths and Danny himself is a wonderfully example of a character that simply breaks your heart and makes you want to hold him tightly and tell him everything will be all right. His strength, his quirks and his ability to rise above his life on the streets is inspiring .
Suffice it to say, I was rooting for Danny to be happy all the way through this book. When he finally manages to find his happiness, in a way I won't tell anyone about as it would spoil your enjoyment of the journey of `getting there', I did shout out aloud in glee that what I'd hoped would happen, happened.

It is a story of adversity and how people can overcome it just by a strong sense of self and help from others who care without judging others for their sexual persuasion or their beliefs and value system. This is something we should all aspire to and promote wherever we can.

The author is a skillful storyteller, weaving a tale of real people in real situations and I applaud her ability to tell us about what's in her imagination in such a way.

Bubble Trouble Margaret Mahy

This book is a beautifully woven together rhyming account of a small town's adventure when a young member accidentally blows a bubble that catches a baby and the baby starts floating away. The whole book uses rhyme schemes and onomatopoeia to tell a story of one town's adventure to rescue a young member. I For teachers, I would say this book would be best to read to younger audiences and to use a lot of various voices and excitement. The pictures are colorful and action filled so young children will be captivated by the adventure. The story flows well and introduces many new characters throughout and ties everything together at the end in a way that the audience can understand and the children can be excited about. The book is the perfect length for storytelling to a young crowd of maybe kinder through second graders.

Acer H6510BD Theater Projector White

I recently bought the Acer H6520BD projector and a 120" screen. I had read several articles about budget projectors and narrowed my decision to a Benq and the Acer projector. The Acer Projector was $200.00 less and was rated brighter than the BenQ so I made the choice to save the $200.00 and buy the Acer Projector.

I was reluctant to buy a projector, infact I was never impressed with the the picture quality of projectors in the past. I decided to buy a projector due to recent articles noting picture quality and brightness have improved over the past few years.

Review- I have only watched the projector for a limited time, as with any projector the picture will wash out with light. This is not an issue for me as I have a darkened room and mostly watch movies at night. The picture is very bright and colors are crisp, I have to agree with the recent articles that projectors have greatly improved over the past few years. I have a flat screen and older Samsung 67 projection television with a LED light engine(I always thought this was the best projection television made due to the bright LED light). I am impressed with the projectors picture and feel the picture brightness and clarity is in the same class as the flat screen and projection television and this is on a 120" screen.

I have not used 3D yet, so I cannot give an opinion.

Overall, if you are in the market for a budget projector with a bright clear picture, I believe you will be happy with the Acer.

RCA AH16100SR 16 Gauge Speaker Wire

Mark Whiteway is on fire! He not only continues to write great fiction but appears to be picking up some serious steam with this storyline. This fourth novel; Seeds Across the Sky; is a little different than the three previous novels, but just as amazing! This story includes a lot of really important background details about the history of the different races and the events leading up to the current storyline of the other books in the series.
Whether you're jumping into the Lodestone series with Seeds Across the Sky, or a continuing fan of the story, this is a real page-turner!
Many of the new (or rather, quite old) characters portrayed in this cleverly-told Ancient Kellani story hold new and exciting key information regarding the past and future of the inhabitants of the Planet Helvena.
Keris is confronted with some very impressive; and perhaps life-changing; information that will keep you on your toes. Along with being well defined, these new characters are also an impressively likable crew! I've really enjoyed this series so far, and am now legitimately hooked!

The Sky Is Everywhere ebook

As a school librarian I had heard the buzz about Jandy Nelson's debut young adult novel, The Sky is Everywhere, and knew it would be a perfect companion for my road trip from Florida to New York. It did not disappoint me. I was so engaged that I completed the book by the time I reached North Carolina, our first stop. I loved Lennie and her emotional journey from younger sister to adulthood. The themes of loss of a loved one, sexual experimentation, and young love are dealt with delicately and need to be addressed in young adult literature. The beautiful writing is echoed in the poetry written by Lennie throughout the novel. In its heartfelt way we are lead to an understanding of this character and intensely feel her pain and confusion. This book is a must for the teen literature shelves. Share it with someone you love!

Hopeless ebook

This was one of the most beautiful books I've ever read. This was the first time I've ever had to put down a book to gather myself. And I had to do it twice. The plot twists will leave you breathless and needing a chapter break.

I fell hard for Sky and Holder right from the beginning. Sky is funny and cynical, her banter with the other characters had me cracking up.

Especially gay Mormon best-friend-in-the-world Breckin.

"I'm Breckin. I'm in an alliance to overtake the public school system and all its minions with your daughter."

I liked these characters and grew to live these characters and then fell so completely in love with Sky and Holder that I don't think I'll stop thinking about this book any time soon.

The way the fun moments are weaved together with the heavier, emotional moments made this book real. I didn't think it was possible to craft a more loving, beautiful guy than Will Cooper. I was so wrong. Dean Holder was wonderful. I actually cried at one of his lines about two-thirds through. I won't ruin it but seriously. Get your highlighter ready.

One of my favorite lines:

"It was all I needed to let go of the awkwardness. A good slap on the ass." - Sky

I can't wait to see what Colleen Hoover has next.

Ron Rash's short stories stir the mind to, and renew my perception of, the lower classes in the South, their mindset and ills, like no other writer has. Anais Nin said, "What we are familiar with we cease to see. The writer shakes up the familiar scene, and, as if by magic, we see a new meaning in it."

Ron Rash is a magician then. He's a wizard who, without resorting to stereotypes, writes honestly, and for the most part realistically, about depressing subjects while maintaining, perhaps unintentionally, an optimistic air, or Hope. In a short story, he connects you to the character(s) in a way that's rare. One that struck me particularly hard was "The Ascent" in his collection, "Burning Bright: Stories," about a typical 5th grader whose parents are meth-head scavengers from whom he wishes to fly away.

I purchased "Nothing Gold Can Stay" after reading reviews for this and prior books by Ron Rash. Since I've read this, I've bought and read his other short story books (the ibooks) "Burning Bright: Stories" and "Chemistry and Other Stories." I have enjoyed nearly every story in each volume, even the ones that seem to me somewhat far-fetched like "A Sort of Miracle," with Baroque and Marlboro, in "Nothing Gold..." I get a rush as I start each new story and find nearly every one of them provocative of folks and places and what-nots I've known growing up in the Deep South. For short story collections, you can't beat that. I highly recommend this and the other 2 mentioned above.

camera digital review Civil Twilight

Civil Twilight

Like many people, it seems, I first became aware of Civil Twilight not long before this album's release, after one of their songs was featured on a TV show. It's not often that I'm impressed by songs I hear on TV, and it's been quite a long time since I've been this excited and impressed by any new band.

Civil Twilight has crafted a masterful debut album that should make the world stand up and take notice! Its three members are all very talented and wrench gorgeous, evocative music from their instruments like they were just born to play. The vocals soars beautifully and are really a perfect match for everything else going on.

This is modern rock at its finest: somehow both baroque and streamlined at the same time. Comparisons to Radiohead, U2 and even Jeff Buckley are inevitable, but Civil Twilight is definitely unique.

I would recommend this album to anyone, and I can't wait to see what this band will do next.

Cute Penguin, Fun Game

camera review Mominis Ltd Jelly Jump

Mominis Ltd Jelly Jump

In this game you control a cute penguin that tries to reach the stars (at least that's what it seems based on the intro story).
You start at the deep ocean you try to jump on different jelly fish and other platforms to reach higher, trying to avoid all kinds of enemies on your way to the stars.
The game is very easy to control via the accelerometer of the device and you can use certain power-ups by tapping on the screen.

It starts to get harder to higher you reach and the graphics also change when you reach new places (there are various locations for the sea, sky and space, which looks really cool).

The game gets cooler once you have enough money to buy stuff at the store (you collect money while you play) and you can buy all kinds of cool stuff, such as boosters that makes you fly long distances or martial arts attacks that kill enemies in the levels among other powers.

The game keeps being interesting, thanks to the objectives in the game, every time you start playing, you have 3 active objectives to do in the game.
If you complete objectives, you get money that helps you advance in the game.
There is also a combo system that helps you reach higher scores if you don't miss platforms and you don't jump on the same platform twice.

Overall, the game is really fun and cute and is highly recommended, even if you only have a few minutes to play each day :)

Fantastic Light Pollution Filter!

camera review Hoya 52mm Intensifier Enhancer Filter

Hoya 52mm Intensifier Enhancer Filter

There are books out right now that speak of the Autism perspective but none from someone as well known and vocal as Jenny McCarthy. Her book, as well as her celebrity status, will reach a significant portion of the population who may not know what autism really is. They might know a friend or family member who has a child with autism but does not have enough first hand experience to know what that caregiver is going through on a daily basis, let alone know how a child with autism processes information. It will also bring light to the many many books out there by parents who have been through the same struggles (older books like Judy/Sean Barron, Mary Callahan, etc).

I suppose it goes without saying these types of reviews also become a sounding board for many parents, myself included to let others know they are not alone... the average person in public cannot identify a seemingly quiet child (i.e. flat affect) as having autism because of the short period of time they are in contact. It does not mean this child is the same way all the time. People have actually asserted that they could handle our child if it were in their hands since they spent all of an hour with them! The first time my neighbors knew the extent of my child's behavior was when I had to physically remove my child from the house and outside so he would not slam into furniture during a full blown tantrum and hurt himself. He screamed so loudly that grown men came running out of their homes a block away to see if my child was in danger. Trust me, Jenny is not exaggerating any part of her story when I tell you we have experienced rages in our son, especially when something has been introduced into his gut, be it food or medicine; he seems to be unable to remove from his system and can stay for days, even weeks causing anguish for him.

This book isn't about answers or easy cures that worked for Evan McCarthy; every child with autism is different. For us, we knew we had to figure out a dietary balance for his brain, gut and severe multiple allergies and a proper early intervention program. He no longer looks blankly at a wall, stim for hours or sleeps 4-5 hours at a time. We still have a long way to go with education and diet, but we have a little boy who has shown improvement in socialization with his family and teachers because he is feeling so much better.

As Jenny says in the end, this is a book about FAITH, having faith in yourself as a parent to do the best of your ability in seeking help for your child's health and well being. Some male readers (i.e. fathers) may be put off by the disheartening tone she has towards the father of her son for most of the book but we have to remember it is not directed at fathers in general. This is a telling of her life experience so it is rather autobiographical. I highly recommend for people, who are getting this book for parents of children with autism, to read it first before passing it along... so many parents already know what needs to be done, but they need their friends and family to understand too.

car stereo Buffy Vampire Slayer Season Volume

Buffy Vampire Slayer Season Volume

I've been a fan of Buffy since the very first movie starring Kristy Swanson. (Buffy the Vampire Slayer) I followed the series, and loved that. (Buffy the Vampire Slayer - The Complete First Season (Slim Set)) And the spin-off of Angel, and loved that too. (Angel - Season One (Slim Set)) So naturally, it was a foregone conclusion that I would follow the comic, and love that too. And so I have. But Joss Whedon is a MASTER at tugging the heart string s in any medium, and he did so time and again throughout Season 8. NEVER is that more true than in the final collection of Season 8. We see chivalry and valor, the buddings of love on many fronts... And we see betrayal, heartache, despair, and as is ALWAYS the case with Buffy... We see the hard choices. I can't say ANYTHING really without giving away spoilers, except to say that Joss ties all this together wonderfully, and leaves it PERFECTLY poised for Season 9, and the new Angel and Faith spinoff series. I love that the worlds of Buffy and Angel are now taking place in the same time frame and dimension, and I can't wait to see where it all goes. Honestly, if you're here, you already read the series and are just trying to decide if this is worth a purchase. Even if you don't agree with it, the story will move you, and I don't think you'll be disappointed.

Thanks so much for your time folks.

A 2006 Duke University study found that some forty percent of what we do every day is habit. That is, we don't make decisions every day about how we're going to, say, brush our teeth--which hand to hold the brush in, when to turn on the water, how long to brush. It's a routine that we consciously settled on at some point, but it has long since become automatic, something we do without thinking, a habit. This is good, because if we had to make decisions about every single action we take in our lives every day, it would be paralyzing, and we would have no time to think about more interesting stuff. So it's vital that our lives are filled with these routines, these habit loops, although the habits themselves, of course, can be either good or bad. In The Power of Habit Charles Duhigg talks about the habits of individuals, businesses, and societies, using examples of each to show how habits work for good or ill in real life. He discusses, for example, how Starbucks instills willpower in its workers by inculcating good habits, how Target profiles its customers based on their habitual purchases, how the new CEO of Alcoa turned the company around by focusing on the institution's habits related to worker safety. The most interesting part of the book, however, is Duhigg's discussion of how habits work, how they can be created, and how bad habits can, with work, be reprogrammed. It's really a fascinating read.

It's really a fascinating read.

bike Tokyo Night Where Drink ebook

Tokyo Night Where Drink ebook

Tho i have not watched the whole second feature, 'Horror Of Party Beach' is what i really bought the package for. I was impressed with the trailers and the good quality of the films. I remember watching this particular film on tv on one of those Creature Feature programs that was popular in the 70's.

One annoying fact that i despised was the heavy editing that TV did to this film, which, in my opinion was just a horror film that really couldn't be taken seriously considering how badly acted it was, and that the violence was rather funny in a way.

Growing up and not forgetting bad classics such as these, i would time to time see if i could own an un-cut version and just relax and re-live a time when after my parents went to bed i had the joy to be subjected to films such as these. Guilty pleasures are what they are called.

I am not down-playing the film, as i tend to take an achievement for what it is, entertainment. This film does entertain, despite it's flaws of bad acting and strange 'Beach Party' music. All i can say is, ENJOY!!
